Frequently asked questions

What are the best Halloween events for young kids in South Carolina?

The two zoo Boo events are built for families with small children. Greenville Zoo’s Boo in the Zoo runs through Oct 31 with babies 0-1 admitted free, and Riverbanks Zoo & Garden’s Boo at the Zoo admits children younger than 2 free through Oct 30. Charleston County Parks also holds free costume festivals on Oct 29 and Oct 30.

Which South Carolina Halloween events are free?

Charleston County Parks lists the Baptist Hill Fall Festival (Thursday, Oct 29, 5:30-7 p.m.) and the McClellanville Fall Festival (Friday, Oct 30, 5:30-8 p.m.) as free with no registration. Children 10 and under are also free at the Aiken Fall Steeplechase when with an adult, but each adult needs a $47.25 patron ticket.

Do I need to buy tickets ahead for the zoo Halloween events?

Greenville Zoo says online tickets for some time slots are sold out and that tickets may be bought at the gate, so check the ticket calendar for your date. Riverbanks says capacity is limited and recommends buying online. Walnut Grove, the steeplechase and the Wannamaker fun run also sell tickets or registration online.

Can everyone in my group trick-or-treat at Greenville Zoo?

Only guests who buy the $3 Trick-or-Treat upgrade. Each guest who plans to trick-or-treat needs one, and babies 0-1 are free to enter but get no candy without the upgrade. Bring your own bags, because none are provided.

Is there a Halloween event on October 31 itself?

Yes. Greenville Zoo is open 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct 31 (new this year), the Aiken Fall Steeplechase runs that Saturday, and Charleston County Parks holds the Trick, Treat and Trail Fun Run and Festival at Wannamaker County Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Are pets welcome at any of these events?

Walnut Grove’s All Hallows’ Eve on Saturday, Oct 24 says families and pets can enjoy it and holds a dog costume contest at 3 p.m. Check each organizer before bringing a dog to any other event.
