About Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site
Redcliffe Plantation, finished in 1859, was the home of James Henry Hammond and his descendants and of African American families who worked there enslaved and later free. The site interprets both Hammond's wealth and power and the suffering of the people forced to work the land.
