Good to Know

  • Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor. NPS: the Corridor and its federal Commission were designated by an act of Congress on October 12, 2006 through the National Heritage Areas Act of 2006. It runs from Pender County, North Carolina to St. Johns County, Florida. The Gullah Geechee people are descendants of West and Central Africans enslaved and brought to the lower Atlantic states. The Corridor organization says it does not provide or coordinate site tours. source

FAQ

How many days do I need?

This plan is built for 2 days. Stops are listed in a sensible order, not a promise that every one fits.

Are the hours current?

Hours and prices are copied from each operator’s page on October 26, 2026 and change by season. Use the source link before you go.

What We Could Not Confirm

Not confirmed: we looked for these on official pages and did not find them. Check with the town or operator before you rely on them.

  • Reconstruction Era NHP visitor center hours (Beaufort, Penn Center, Camp Saxton): hours table did not render. an unofficial summary mentioned Tue-Sat 9-5 but this was not read on the page.
  • Lower Whitewater Falls access in SC (Foothills Trail, Bad Creek): Discover South Carolina article mentions a 4.8-mile round trip to the overlook but not a fee or hours; USFS overlook and $3 fee are on the NC side. Whitewater Falls: the NC Upper Falls overlook is in North Carolina, not SC.
  • Hobcaw Barony Discovery Center opening hours and street address: not on text. Rice Museum admission price and address: not on page. Kaminski House closed days (Sunday inferred only from hours list).
  • Mount Pleasant sweetgrass stands: no hours or stand list on official pages (stands are independent businesses). Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Festival Association: no organizer page read; the 2026 festival read is run by the Town of Mount Pleasant. 2027 Sweetgrass Festival date not found.
  • Gullah Celebration dates are from the organizer header (Feb 1-28, 2027); Penn Center Heritage Days Nov 12-14, 2026 from organizer page. Penn Center street address '16 Penn Center Circle' came from an NPS release in an unofficial summary, not from a page – treat as unconfirmed.
