What Is Actually True The South Carolina Encyclopedia says the origin of the joggling board 'has fallen into the murkiness of local legend', calls the Kinloch and Huger families' Acton Plantation story one of the more enduring creation stories, and says boards were common on the coast by the 1880s. A joggling board is a single plank on stands at each end, up to sixteen feet long, that bounces. The Encyclopedia says they stayed popular with couples, children and parents soothing babies, and that porches in Pawleys Island, Georgetown, Charleston and the Lowcountry have them.
